Online payments on a website: monobank, LiqPay or WayForPay — what Ukrainian business should choose in 2026

Short answer: the lowest fee in 2026 belongs to plata by mono (monobank acquiring): 1.3% on Ukrainian cards, but it requires a sole trader / LLC account with monobank itself. LiqPay charges ~1.5% and is the easiest option for PrivatBank customers. WayForPay is more expensive (2.3–2.4%) but the most capable: instalments from several banks at once, subscriptions, a flexible checkout. For most stores the optimal strategy is to connect two systems: a main one with a low fee + WayForPay for instalments.

At StexSoft we integrate all three systems into stores on WooCommerce, OpenCart and Laravel, so we compare them from a practitioner's standpoint: what hurts during onboarding, where payments get lost, and how much the fee really eats.

Fees: what each payment costs

System Fee (Ukrainian cards) Details
plata by mono 1.3% 2% on foreign cards; requires an account with monobank
LiqPay 1.5% custom rate from ~UAH 300,000/mo turnover; 1% for utilities and HOAs
WayForPay 2.4% 2.3% at UAH 500k – 5m/mo turnover; above that — individual terms

Rates change from time to time — always check the current terms on the official websites before signing up. And an important rule of the payment systems: passing the fee on to the buyer (surcharging) is prohibited — the merchant pays the fee, so build it into your prices.

What it costs in money: a calculation on real turnovers

How much the acquiring fee eats at different turnovers
How much the acquiring fee eats at different turnovers

A gap of «just 1.1%» sounds trivial — until you convert it into hryvnias per year:

Turnover/mo mono (1.3%) LiqPay (1.5%) WayForPay (2.4/2.3%) Min–max difference per year
UAH 100,000 UAH 1,300 UAH 1,500 UAH 2,400 UAH 13,200
UAH 500,000 UAH 6,500 UAH 7,500 UAH 11,500 UAH 60,000
UAH 1,000,000 UAH 13,000 UAH 15,000 UAH 23,000 UAH 120,000

At half a million a month in turnover, the gap between the cheapest and the most expensive system is UAH 60,000 a year — the budget of a decent ad campaign. That is exactly why choosing an acquirer is a financial decision, not a matter of «whatever the developer offered first».

Capabilities: what decides the choice beyond the fee

plata by mono. The fastest onboarding on the market (often the same day), the lowest rate, a convenient dashboard. The main limitation is the mandatory sole trader / LLC account with monobank. Instalments from mono are a separate integration with its own fee (for example, ~2.9% when split over 2 months; you receive the full amount at once and the bank carries the non-payment risk).

LiqPay. PrivatBank's service — and almost everyone in Ukraine has Privat, so for buyers this is a «familiar» payment, which lowers checkout drop-offs. A standard 1.5%, a stable API, good documentation. The downsides: support is sometimes slow, and non-standard scenarios (complex holds, split payments) are limited.

WayForPay. The richest feature set: instalments from several banks at once without separate contracts (the store receives the full amount immediately), recurring payments for subscriptions, a flexible checkout widget, payment links for selling on social media. The price for that is the highest fee of the three.

A typical case from practice. An electronics store with an average order of UAH 6,000+ connected two systems: plata by mono as the main one (minimum fee on ordinary payments) + WayForPay only for the «Pay in instalments» button. Instalments brought in about 20% of the orders that would not have happened otherwise, while the main payment flow runs at 1.3%. The double integration paid for itself in the first month.

What you need to get connected (and what everyone forgets)

  1. A sole trader or an LLC with a bank account. None of the systems work with private individuals. For mono it has to be an account with monobank.
  2. A public offer on the website. A mandatory requirement of every system: the contract, company details, refund policy.
  3. A software cash register (RRO) and fiscal receipts. An online payment is a settlement transaction: you need a software RRO (Checkbox, Vchasno.Kasa and similar) integrated with the acquirer, so the receipt is emailed to the buyer automatically. Without it — a risk of fines.
  4. Technical integration. WooCommerce and OpenCart have ready-made modules for all three systems; for Laravel the integration is written through the API. The typical cost of the work is UAH 3,000–15,000 depending on the number of systems and scenarios (holds, refunds, instalments).

How to choose: a short cheat sheet

  • You already bank with monobank / the minimum fee matters most → plata by mono.
  • A mass audience, «so that they pay without questions» → LiqPay.
  • You need instalments from several banks, subscriptions, sales on social media → WayForPay.
  • A high average order value → a main system + WayForPay for instalments.
  • You sell abroad → none of the three fully covers international sales; look at Stripe or PayPal.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

StexSoft integrates monobank, LiqPay and WayForPay into stores on any platform — with fiscalisation, instalments and correct refund handling. Tell us about your store — we'll advise the optimal setup for your turnover.

Which payment system is the cheapest for a website in 2026?

plata by mono: 1.3% on Ukrainian cards. The condition is a sole trader / LLC account with monobank.

Can two payment systems be connected at the same time?

Yes, and it is often the most profitable strategy: a main system with a low fee + WayForPay for instalments. On WooCommerce and OpenCart these are two modules running in parallel.

Can the acquiring fee be added to the buyer's bill?

No. The payment systems' rules explicitly prohibit surcharging — the fee is paid by the merchant. A violation can lead to termination of the acquiring contract.

Is a cash register (RRO) required for online payments?

Yes. Paying by card on a website is a settlement transaction that is subject to fiscalisation. The solution is a software RRO integrated with the payment system for automatic receipts.

How much does it cost to integrate payments into a website?

A ready-made module for WooCommerce/OpenCart — from UAH 3,000 for the setup; a custom API integration with holds and refunds — up to UAH 15,000. The exact price depends on the platform — see the platform comparison and the website budget benchmarks for 2026.
